Goat Milk Means Health to Many..

““All goats are mischievous thieves, gate-crashers, and trespassers.

Also they possess individual character, intelligence, and capacity for affection which can only be matched by the dog.

Having once become acquainted with them I would as soon farm without a dog as without a goat.”

David Mackenzie, Farmer in the Western Isles (1954)

Although they are sometimes chided for their persistent curiosity, few doubt that many an under developing infant has been brought to vibrant health through goat's milk.

Prior to the industrialization of the milk distribution system, doctors prescribed goat milk when mothers were unable to nurse.

Goat milk supplies everything from milk to cheese to even soap.

Driving Directions: Boulder County near Boulder Reservoir entrance gate. Travel north on 51st from Jay Rd., turn left (west) on Valhalla Dr., 3rd house on left on the corner of Valhalla and Thor. Products Offered: Raw goat milk for now (probably will work into yoghurt, kefir and some cheeses as I get rolling. Farm Description: We live on one acre in Boulder County. The dairy herd consists of 5 does currently; 2 Nubians, 2 Saaens and 1 La Mancha. We have about 20 laying chickens and some years we raise chickens for meat. There is also a vegetable garden for our use. Farm Management Philosophy: I have a deep respect for the goats as hard workers contributing high quality milk. I keep them healthy and content by paying attention to them individually, giving them good clean feed, comfortable living conditions, including plenty of room to exercise, shelter and dry bedding, regular routine, fresh water, appropriate grooming and natural health care. I use mostly herbal and Homeopathic medicines on the goats when needed. Only when necessary do I use antibiotic treatment. (Milk withdrawal is closely monitored in the case of antibiotic use.) They eat unsprayed alfalfa and a dairy grain blend. I'm exploring natural and organic grain rations and hope to move to that within the next year. I will let them forage on our property and two adjoining properties. It remains to be seen how much of their feed will come from these sources. I plan to freshen the does in March and have them dried off during January and February.

Our goats give us the best milk on the planet! That's because they are Nigerian Dwarf goats and have an average 8-10% butterfat content instead of the more usual 3-4%. The result is a sweeter, delicious milk. These miniature dairy goats live a charmed life in the mountains with rocks to climb and clean air to breathe. We feed them Douglas Fir branches (their favorite!), high quality alfalfa hay, plus a seed and grain mix at milking that contains no corn or soy. Our 14 does are having babies this month. Milk will be available about the middle of June, so we're taking reservations now. We milk with a milking machine and put the milk directly into the freezer. Because goat's milk is naturally homogenized, it does not separate when frozen. This makes it super convenient to deliver milk (frozen) straight to your door if you live in Boulder, Lyons, or Longmont. The address listed here is actually our mailing address. Our dairy is west of Lyons at 8000ft. elevation in the foothills of the Rockies. If you'd like to visit, give us a call and we'll send you a map to bring you to our bit of paradise.

Cottonwood Creek Dairy is a raw milk enterprise offering shares in its Jersey milking herd so that you can have your own source of raw milk. You pay $50 to purchase one share which will yield approximately one gallon of milk per week. This is a one-time ownership fee and you may buy as many shares as you like or sell them back at any time. A regular monthly boarding fee is charged for the cost of feeding, housing and milking the cows. While it is not legal to sell raw milk in the State of Colorado, recent legislation has legalized raw milk distribution through a consumer/farmer contract known as a cow share agreement. Cottonwood Creek Dairy is laying plans to build a micro-dairy to provide raw milk in Central Colorado.

At Ebert Family Farm, we believe in the philosophy of “grass fed is best!”  This is why our Jersey milking herd is never fed any grain and rotationally grazes on about 600 acres of native grass pasture during the growing season. Through the cow share program, members have access to fresh raw milk, cream, butter, and yogurt. The farm also hosts a flock of egg laying chickens that range as far as they wish on the pasture, milk-fed pigs, and grass fed/finished beef. The farm is an hour drive North East of central Denver.  We offer delivery to shareholder distribution points in and around the Denver metro, Conifer, Boulder and Longmont.

Nestled in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, the James Ranch Dairy is one of only a handful of dairies in the United States that is 100% grain free. We only feed lush, high altitude, cool season pasture during the green season (see "Pasture Perfect" by Jo Robinson for the benefits of 100% grass fed dairy). We feed only hay in the winter. We milk seasonally (April-mid November). The cows get the winter off to grow a healthy calf. Equally as important, we get the winter off to get our sanity back. We built a New Zealand style milking barn which we keep exceptionally clean. Most of our milk goes to our raw milk artisan cheeses which can be purchased on farm or at the Durango and Telluride farmers' markets. In addition to raw milk and cheeses, we have 100% grass fed beef, pasture raised, whey fed pork (Whey-Good Pork), lots of pasture eggs, native tree nursery, and a wide variety of organically raised vegetables. We offer tours during the sumer (call for the schedule). We are 10 miles north of Durango. Across the highway and just north of Honeyville.

Milk shares are available as of March 30, 2010! Please email or call to sign up as a shareholder.

Our family is blessed to have a small dairy goat herd on 4 acres now consisting of Alpines and purebred Nubians. The goats enjoy their days outside in one of our pasture areas and find shelter at night under the roof of our Blue Barn. Our goats are given high quality alfalfa (and pasture during the summer), minerals, baking soda and fresh water on a free choice basis. Molasses coated grain and black oil sunflower seeds are given to lactating goats. We maintain proper milking/milk handling procedures to ensure healthy, good-tasting milk. Milk may not be available for 2-3 months in the winter/early spring during the dry season when the goats are preparing to have kids or are feeding their newborn kids. If a goat needs medical treatment, natural options are always preferred but at our discretion conventional medicine may be used with caution. Milk from a goat undergoing treatment will not be distributed. Eggs, goat milk soap, and other products are also available. We are located 30 minutes east of Parker. We currently offer raw milk shares from our goats, which are fed a strict diet of alfalfa hay, pastured and choice minerals. My family and I feel that this diet allows the girls to provide a milk that is a nutrient- dense whole food with  vital fat-soluble activators found exclusively in animal fats

We are a small family farm with one jersey cow and one jersey/brown swiss cross.

The fresh raw milk is wonderful for my son's allergies, not to mention our health in general!!

I make cheese an am working on constructing a cheese cave so the cheeses can age properly for the full 60 days.

My animals are more like my children; they get the best of care. We do not use antibiotics except when absolutely necessary; we do not use hormones or steriods of any kind. I try to feed everything as naturally as possible.

We also raise hogs, beef, and chickens.

We have beef available by the 1/4, half, or whole. Hogs by the 1/2 or whole and whole fryer/roaster chickens, as well as farm fresh eggs.

Stop by or call anytime!!

Platinum Pines Ranch is located in Kiowa, Co.

I am a 7 generation native of Colorado and we love this great state.

On our ranch here, in addition to quality performance horses, we produce grain fed beef, pork and chicken. We also provide FARM FRESH MILK from Jersey cows.

Although Jersey cows are harder to find than other breeds, their milk is worth it! WE love the fresh taste not to mention the wonderful cream butter and cheese Jerseys are known for!

Our Jersey girls are worth their weight in gold, between their docile temperment and great production of milk. They are treated that way too. We don't lock our girls up, they are turned out to pasture and actually come running when it's time to milk. (quite a site to see!)

California cows might be happy... but they have never been to Platinum Pines!!

We are a family-owned, urban dairy located just miles west of downtown Denver.  We operate a seasonal goat-share program with our Nubian doe Carla, who is very much a part of our family.  Our philosophy revolves around a deep sense of care and respect for all living creatures.  Carla eats free-choice alfalfa and timothy grass, and a small amount of grain during milking.  We believe in natural remedies for her care.  Our goat-share program also offers processing services for yogurt and Greek yogurt.  Our goal is to provide a local source of fresh milk for Denver metro families, and to create a healthy, happy and sustainable way of life for Carla and our share community members. WE NO LONGER HAVE SHARES AVAILABLE FOR THE 2010 SEASON!  Thank you for your interest!
